SmartDFE 5.3.0: Advancing customer-driven innovation and workflow efficiency

SmartDFE 5.3.0, the first release of the year, marks a return to our primary focus on delivering customer-driven enhancements and feature development. Following the year-end 5.2 release, which focused on supportability, maintainability, and usability, this update prioritizes new capabilities and workflow improvements requested directly by our customers.

This release introduces a broad range of enhancements across SmartDFE components, including SPC, SMM, Job Editor, Label Studio, and ScreenPro. Notable additions include programmable page skip, RIP output flipping by print bar group, RIP server rotation in 90-degree increments, and support for image regions (slices), providing greater flexibility for complex production environments.

Customer-requested improvements also extend to color and media management, with support for importing CXF color libraries, enhanced spot color handling, duplex media support, and improved retention of Lab adjustments within the Colors GUI. Updates to Job Costing, RIP Ahead configuration, and TIFF Contone RIP workflows further strengthen production accuracy and efficiency.

Usability and performance have also been enhanced, with faster application startup, improved UI responsiveness, refined queue management, and clearer job metadata visibility. Additional updates include improved thumbnail rendering, support for 16-bit raster linearization in ScreenPro, expanded localisation across multiple languages, and enhanced reporting accuracy for drop counts and job metrics.

In total, SmartDFE 5.3.0 delivers 21 customer-driven enhancements and fixes, identified by SDFESUP- references. This demonstrates our continued commitment to addressing real-world production requirements and evolving the platform in line with customer feedback.
